China Railway Construction Corporation Limited (CRCC) said that its tunnel boring machine (TBM) began work on an expressway tunneling project for the first time across the country.
The 15.36-km expressway tunnel is the longest in southwest China, linking Leshan to Xichang in Sichuan Province.
The project, managed by the CRCC, was the first time for the TBM to be adopted in domestic expressway construction, filling a gap in the field.
According to the CRCC on Sunday, the Leshan-Xichang expressway will serve as an important arterial road to aid the ecological tourism and targeted poverty alleviation in the region.
