U.S. dollar slips as risk appetite increases

NEW YORK, April 14 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. dollar weakened in late trading on Tuesday as risk appetite increased on hopes that major countries would gradually reopen their economies following progress in the virus battle.

The dollar index, which measures the greenback against six major peers, was down 0.46 percent at 98.8946 in late trading.

In late New York trading, the euro rose to 1.0979 U.S. dollars from 1.0922 dollars in the previous session, and the British pound was up to 1.2627 dollars from 1.2529 U.S. dollars in the previous session. The Australian dollar increased to 0.6434 U.S. dollar from 0.6399 dollar.

The U.S. dollar bought 107.16 Japanese yen, lower than 107.52 Japanese yen of the previous session. The U.S. dollar fell to 0.9602 Swiss franc from 0.9662 Swiss franc, and it increased to 1.3909 Canadian dollars from 1.3875 Canadian dollars.
