China's stock exchanges in Shanghai and Shenzhen opened lower on Wednesday. The Shanghai Composite Index opened 1.26 percent lower at 5,049.2. The Shenzhen Composite Index opened 0.50 percent lower at 2,979.89.
The SME Price Index for small firms was down 0.42 percent to open at 11,454.99 and the ChiNext Index opened 0.28 percent lower at 3,695.06. Stocks of shipbuilding, coal, banking, internet, transport facilities, nonferrous metal, securities dealers, public transport, and insurance sectors led the losers at Wednesday's opening, while the leading gainers were in paper-making, environmental protection, computer equipment, and home appliances sectors.
