Tokyo stocks ended mixed Friday on concerns over a U.S. monetary policy meeting next week. The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average was down 35.40 points, or 0. 19 percent, from Thursday at 18,264.22.
In contrast, the broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange finished 0.71 point, or 0.05 percent, higher at 1,480.23.
Major decliners included oil and coal products, and electric machinery, while retail and real estate issues led gainers. The turnover was 3,471.70 billion yen (about 28.77 billion U.S. dollars).
