Chinese shares retreat and closed tad higher on Thu. amid thinner turnover

Share prices on China's Shanghai and Shenzhen bourses rebounded sharply from midday, but retreated at the last hour of trading on Thursday amid thinner turnover.

For the whole day, the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index went up 0.36 percent to end at 3,387.32 points. The Shenzhen Composite Index increased 0.80 percent to end at 2,014.40.

The SME Index for small firms rose 0.62 percent to end at 7,771.86 and the ChiNext Index closed flat at 2,485.28. Combined turnover of the two bourses shrank to 749.7 billion yuan from 916.5 billion yuan on the previous trading day.

Stocks of daily chemicals, hotels, aviation devices, Internet, automobiles, property, public transport, food and beverage, and tourism sectors led the gainers on Thursday, while, the insurance, telecom operation, logistics, and banking sectors underperformed on the day.

On the stock index futures market, the IF November contract increased 0.67 percent to end at 3,440.0, keeping a discount of 93.31 points to the underlying Hushen 300 Index, which went up 0.24 percent to end at 3,533.31.

The SSE 50 November contract edged up 0.17 percent to end at 2,287.4, keeping a discount of 19.95 points to the underlying SSE 50 Index, which went down 0.14 percent to close at 2,307.35.

The CSI November contract surged 1.01 percent to end at 6,782.0, keeping a discount of 326.97 points to the underlying CSI 500 stock index, which increased 0.85 percent to end at 7,108.97.
