Share prices on China's Shanghai and Shenzhen bourses retreated at the last hour of trading and closed mixed on Friday, the last trading day of October. For the whole day, the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index went down 0.14 percent to end at 3,382.56 points. The Shenzhen Composite Index edged up 0.02 percent to end at 2,014.86. The SME Index for small firms increased 0.31 percent to end at 7,795.92 and the ChiNext Index fell 0.28 percent to end at 2,478.28.Combined turnover of the two bourses expanded to 802.6 billion yuan from 749.7 billion yuan on the previous trading day.
Stocks of shipbuilding, coal, public transport, medical treatment, nonferrous metal, logistics, steel, transport equipment, natural gas, and environmental protection sectors led the losers on Friday, while, securities dealers, software services, media and entertainment, food and beverage, chemical fiber, internet, and banking outperformed.
Concept stocks of "two-child policy" post strong gains on Friday as China will allow all couples to have two children, abandoning its decades-long one-child policy, the Communist Party of China (CPC) announced after a key meeting on Thursday. Jiangsu Jiangnan High Polymer Fiber (600527.SH), Hainan Honz Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. (300086.SZ), Xinjiang Western Animal Husbandry (300106.SZ), and Beingmate (002570.SZ) saw 10 percent limit-up on the day.
On the stock index futures market, the IF November contract edged up 0.08 percent to end at 3,439.2, keeping a discount of 94.88 points to the underlying Hushen 300 Index, which increased 0.02 percent to end at 3,534.08. The SSE 50 November contract edged down 0.02 percent to end at 2,286.2, keeping a discount of 26.77 points to the underlying SSE 50 Index, which increased 0.24 percent to close at 2,312.97. The CSI November contract fell 0.10 percent to end at 6,783.8, keeping a discount of 301.17 points to the underlying CSI 500 stock index, which decreased 0.34 percent to end at 7,084.97.
