Hong Kong stocks close 0.44 higher

Hong Kong stocks moved up 120.89 points, or 0.44 percent on Thursday at 27,739.71 points. The benchmark Hang Seng Index traded between 27,470.10 and 27, 787.98.

Turnover totaled 198.59 billion HK dollars (about 25.62 billion U.S.dollars).

The Hang Seng China Enterprises Index ended up 248.31 points, or 1.72 percent, to close at 14,720.13. Three sub-indices gained ground with the Finance moved up 0.19 percent, the Commerce and Industry ended up 0.96 percent and the Utilities moved up 0.08 percent. One sub-indice lost ground with the Properties moved down 0.11 percent.

The Banking giant HSBC, which accounts for the largest weighting of the Hang Seng Index, edged down 0.57 percent to 70.40 HK dollars.

Bank of East Asia, one of the largest local banks in Hong Kong, ended up 0.15 percent to 32.90 HK dollars.

Local bourse operator HKEX ended up 0.42 percent to 286.40 HK dollars.

China Mobile, China's dominant mobile carrier, moved down 0.85 percent to 105.50 HK dollars, while another Chinese telecom giant China Unicom ended flat with 13.76 HK dollars.

For the local property stocks, Sun Hung Kai, one of HK's largest property developer by market value, ended flat with 126.00 HK dollars.

As for mainland-based financial stocks, China Construction Bank, the country's second largest bank which accounts for the third largest weighting of the Hang Seng Index, moved down 0.51 percent to 7.80 HK dollars. ICBC, the world's largest bank by market value, moved up 0.43 percent with 6.94 HK dollars. Bank of China ended down 0.18 percent to 5.52 HK dollars.

As for energy stocks, China's top refiner Sinopec ended up 2.95 percent to 6.98 HK dollars. PetroChina, the country's largest oil and gas producer, ended up 3.96 percent to 10.50 HK dollars. (1 U. S. dollar equals 7.75 HK dollars)
