Tokyo shares surge by break on weaker yen

Tokyo shares ended the morning session sharply higher on Thursday after the yen's retreat against U.S. dollars and upbeat performances in the overnight U.S. stocks market.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average skyrocketed 400.80 points, or 2.45 percent, from Wednesday to 16,782.02.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was up 27.71 points, or 2.08 percent, to 1, 360.15.
