Tokyo shares open lower on G7 divergence

Tokyo shares opened the trading Monday lower amid cautions as finance chiefs of the Group of Seven remained divided over coordinated policy to help drive world economy growth.

At 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average lost 134.16 points, or 0.80 percent, from Friday to 16,602.19.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was down 11.01 points, or 0.82 percent, to 1, 332.39.
