Tokyo stocks closed higher Wednesday as a comparatively weak yen spurred the buying of issues oversold following the market's recent run of closing lows.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average added 60.58 points, or 0.38 percent, from Tuesday to end the day at 15,919.58.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, closed 5.18 points, or 0.41 percent, higher at 1,277.11.
Notable issues that advanced by the close of play comprised insurance, transportation equipment and electric appliance-linked stocks. The day's turnover was 1,925.3 billion yen (18.12 billion U.S. dollars).
