Tokyo shares opened higher Friday morning, with the Nikkei index hitting a roughly one-month intraday high on strong U.S. stocks overnight and a weaker yen.
As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average rose 153.34 points, or 0.94 percent, from Thursday to 16,539.23.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was up 8.83 points, or 0.67 percent, to 1,319. 99. Gainers were led by insurance, glass and ceramic products and miscellaneous product issues.
