​Tokyo stocks open higher as Wall Street's rally lifts mood, weak yen

Tokyo stocks opened higher on Wednesday, as Wall Street's solid performance overnight lifted the market mood, while the yen's retreat again the U.S. dollar was also a catalyst for investors to buy.

In the opening minutes of trading, the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 150.23 points, or 0.91 percent, from Tuesday to 16, 647.59.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, added 12.17 points, or 0.94 percent, to 1,309.73.

Early notable gainers comprised insurance, transportation equipment and nonferrous metal-liked stocks.
