Chinese shares open higher Wednesday

Chinese stocks opened higher on Wednesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.22 percent, at 3,197.37 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index opened 0.29 percent higher at 10,796.50 points. The ChiNext Index, China's NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, was up 0.25 percent to open at 1,840.09 points.

The ChiNext Index, China's NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, rose 0.89 percent to open at 1,840.09 points Wednesday.

The ChiNext Index, together with the Shenzhen Component Index and the Shenzhen SME (small and medium-sized enterprises) Board Index, are major indices reflecting the performance of stocks listed on the Shenzhen Stock Exchange.

The ChiNext Board, which started trading on Oct. 30, 2009, mainly lists hi-tech companies and those with high growth potential.
