​Tokyo stocks end lower on potential auto tariff concerns, yen's rise

Tokyo stocks closed lower Thursday on reports that the United States is considering raising levies on imported cars and on the yen's rise against the U.S. dollar.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average dropped 252.73 points, or 1.11 percent, from Wednesday to close the day at 22,437.01.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, lost 21.66 points, or 1.21 percent, to finish at 1,775.65.

Transportation equipment, marine transportation and nonferrous metal-linked issues comprised those that declined the most by the close of play.
