Tokyo stocks opened higher Friday as Wall Street's advance overnight brightened the market mood.
As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average added 191.52 points, or 0.89 percent, from Thursday to 21,738.51.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was up 15.37 points, or 0.92 percent, at 1,691.57.
Marine transportation, transportation equipment and rubber product-linked issues comprised those that gained the most in the opening minutes after the morning bell.
