Tokyo shares rose Wednesday morning ahead of a summit between the United States and European Union while tracking the rise in the Dow Jones Industrial Average overnight.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average rose 100.35 points, or 0.45 percent, from Monday to 22,610.83.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was up 7.88 points, or 0.45 percent, to 1,754.74.
Gainers were led by nonferrous metal, iron and steel, and pulp and paper issues
