Tokyo shares gained ground Friday morning on stronger-than-expected Japanese gross domestic product (GDP) data for July-September period.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average rose 274.50 points, or 1.22 percent, from Thursday to 22,772.53.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was up 14.14 points, or 0.79 percent, to 1,800.39.
Gainers were led by precision instrument, land transportation and real estate issues.
