Tokyo stocks opened higher Tuesday as investors bought back positions oversold a day earlier owing to a pause in the Turkish lira's nosedive.
As of 9:15 a.m. local time, the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average added 228.87 points, or 1.05 percent, from Monday to 22,086.30.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, gained 11.48 points, or 0.68 percent, at 1,694.98.
Land transportation, air transportation, and information and communication-linked issues comprised those that gained the most in the opening minutes after the morning bell.
