Tokyo stocks opened higher Wednesday as Wall Street's gains overnight on solid earnings reports and tech-linked issues outperforming lifted the market mood here.
As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average added 278.34 points, or 1.23 percent, from Tuesday to 22,827.58.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, gained 19.09 points, or 1.13 percent, at 1,707.00.
Information and communication, securities, and precision instrument-linked issues comprised those that gained the most in the opening minutes after the morning bell.
