Chinese stocks opened higher on Friday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.16 percent to open at 2,609.34 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index opened 0.09 percent higher at 7,741.73 points.
The ChiNext Index, China's NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, was down 0.12 percent to open at 1,344.13 points Friday.
The ChiNext Index, together with the Shenzhen Component Index and the Shenzhen SME (small- and medium-sized enterprises) Board Index, are major indices reflecting the performance of stocks listed on the Shenzhen Stock Exchange.
Hong Kong stocks gained 93.43 points, or 0.36 percent, to open at 26,249.81 points on Friday.
Tokyo stocks open higher on buybacks after heavy selling
Tokyo stocks opened higher Friday as technology issues were bought back as they were deemed oversold the previous day.
As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average added 141.16 points, or 0.66 percent, from Thursday to 21,642.78.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, gained 10.84 points, or 0.67 percent, at 1,621.44.
Precision instrument, service and electric power and gas-linked issues comprised those that gained the most in the opening minutes after the morning bell.
