Tokyo stocks opened slightly higher on Monday as investors opted to go after bargains following the Nikkei's retreat at the end of last week.
As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average added 23.63 points, or 0.11 percent, from Friday to 21,398.46.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, gained 1.69 points, or 0.11 percent, at 1,593.85.
Electric power and gas, insurance, and pulp and paper-linked issues comprised those that gained the most in the opening minutes after the morning bell.
