Tokyo stocks open higher as U.S. shares overnight recovery lifts sentiment

TOKYO, May 22 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened higher Wednesday as investor sentiment was bolstered by a rise in U.S. shares overnight with tech-related issues finding favor after being pressured recently.

As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average added 75.05 points, or 0.35 percent, from Tuesday to 21,347.50.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, gained 4.48 points, or 0.29 percent, at 1,554.78.

Nonferrous metal, electric appliance and machinery-oriented issues comprised those that advanced the most in the opening minutes after the morning bell.
