TOKYO, July 30 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened higher Tuesday despite U.S. shares closing mixed overnight, with the yen's retreat against the U.S. dollar adding support and giving exporters here a boost.

As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average added 116.67 points, or 0.54 percent, from Monday to 21,733.47. The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, gained 7.18 points, or 0.46 percent, at 1,575.75.

Iron and steel, electric appliance and nonferrous metal-linked issues comprised those that gained the most in the opening minutes after the morning bell.
