U.S.-listed Chinese firms trade mostly lower

NEW YORK, July 17 (Xinhua) -- U.S.-listed Chinese companies traded mostly lower on Wednesday with eight of the top 10 stocks by weight in the S&P U.S. Listed China 50 index ending the day on a downbeat note.

Shares of NetEase declined 2.66 percent for the day, the top decliner in the top 10 stocks of the index.

Shares of Ctrip.com International and Alibaba Group Holding increased 2.01 percent and 0.36 percent respectively, the only two gainers in the top 10 stocks of the index.

U.S. stocks closed lower on Wednesday as investors digested a batch of earnings reports.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average was down 115.78 points, or 0.42 percent, to 27,219.85. The S&P 500 fell 19.62 points, or 0.65 percent, to 2,984.42. The Nasdaq Composite Index decreased 37.59 points, or 0.46 percent, to 8,185.21.

As of Tuesday, the S&P U.S. Listed China 50 index stood at 2,751.60, marking a 0.80-percent decrease for the month-to-date returns and a 20.09-percent gain for the year-to-date returns. Enditem
