Japan's Nikkei opens essentially flat on lack of fresh trading cues

TOKYO, Nov. 12 (Xinhua) -- The benchmark Nikkei stock index opened essentially flat Tuesday with investors lacking in fresh cues after Wall Street closed mixed overnight.

As of 9:15 a.m. local time, the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average edged up 21.80 points, or 0.09 percent, from Monday to 23,353.64.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, shed 2.26 points, or 0.13 percent, at 1,701.77.

Marine transportation and retail issues led notable advancers, while rubber product and nonferrous metal issues comprised those that declined the most in the opening minutes after the morning bell.
