U.S. stocks open slightly higher in Christmas Eve session

NEW YORK, Dec. 24 (Xinhua) -- U.S. stocks opened slightly higher on Tuesday in the shortened Christmas Eve session.

Shortly after the opening bell, the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 10.60 points, or 0.04 percent, to 28,562.13. The S&P 500 was up 2.14 points, or 0.07 percent, to 3,226.15. The Nasdaq Composite Index increased 9.06 points, or 0.10 percent, to 8,954.71.

Home Depot shares climbed 0.5 percent in morning trading, leading the advancers in the Dow.

Boeing stock decreased 0.2 percent shortly after the opening. The move followed a 2.91-percent gain in the prior session. Boeing's chief executive Dennis Muilenburg has stepped down after a tumultuous year amid 737 Max crisis, the U.S. aircraft manufacturer said Monday.

Trading is expected to be muted on Christmas Eve and the market will be closed three hours earlier than usual.

U.S. equities rallied on Monday as Wall Street digested corporate news and economic data.
