BEIJING, May 11 (Xinhua) -- Major Chinese stock indices ended lower Monday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 0.02 percent to close at 2,894.8 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.29 percent lower at 10,969.28 points.
The combined turnover of stocks covered by the two indices stood at 684.73 billion yuan (about 96.76 billion U.S. dollars), contracting from 687.47 billion yuan seen in the previous trading day.
Losers outnumbered gainers 803 to 618 on the Shanghai bourse and 1,277 to 850 in Shenzhen.
Shares related to cement and car parts saw a strong performance, with Nanjing Chervon Auto Precision Technology CO., Ltd. surging by the daily limit of 10 percent to end the day at 16.92 yuan per share.
Bucking the upward trend, companies in the sectors of pork and software led the loses.
The ChiNext Index, China's NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, lost 1.05 percent to close at 2,102.83 points Monday.
