TOKYO, June 15 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks closed sharply lower Monday, as a resurgence in COVID-19 cases in Tokyo and other places in the world sparked fears about a second wave of the pandemic.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average dropped 774.53 points, or 3.47 percent, from Friday to close the day at 21,530.95.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, lost 39.90 points, or 2.54 percent, to finish at 1,530.78.

All industry categories closed in negative territory, with real estate, air transportation and consumer credit-linked issues comprising those that declined the most by the close of play.
