U.S.-listed Chinese firms trade mostly higher

NEW YORK, June 17 (Xinhua) -- U.S.-listed Chinese companies traded mostly higher on Wednesday, with seven of the top 10 stocks by weight in the S&P U.S. Listed China 50 index ending the day on an upbeat note.

Shares of Yum China Holdings and Pinduoduo soared 7.21 percent and 6.15 percent, respectively, leading the gainers in the top 10 stocks in the index.

Shares of NetEase and Baidu decreased 1.28 percent and 0.61 percent, respectively, leading the laggards in the top 10 stocks.

U.S. stocks closed mixed on Wednesday as investors grew concerned over a marked increase in coronavirus infections across the country.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 170.37 points, or 0.65 percent, to 26,119.61. The S&P 500 declined 11.25 points, or 0.36 percent, to 3,113.49. The Nasdaq Composite Index gained 14.66 points, or 0.15 percent, to 9,910.53.

The Cboe Volatility Index, widely considered as the best fear gauge in the stock market, dipped 0.59 percent to 33.47.

As of Tuesday, the S&P U.S. Listed China 50 index stood at 3,870.84, marking a 9.84-percent increase for the month-to-date returns and a 22.21-percent gain for the year-to-date returns.
