TOKYO, July 3 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened higher Friday, tracking gains on Wall Street overnight, as data from the Labor Department showing non-farm payrolls in the U.S. soared in June while the unemployment rate dropped, raised hopes for the global economic recovery from the pandemic.

As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average added 122.17 points, or 0.55 percent, from Thursday to 22,268.13.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, gained 7.44 points, or 0.48 percent, at 1,550.20.

Insurance, precision instrument and chemical-oriented issues comprised those that gained the most in the opening minutes after the morning bell.
