TOKYO, Aug. 27 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened slightly lower Thursday as a comparatively firm yen against the U.S. dollar sent issues broadly exposed to overseas markets like exporters lower.

As of 9:15 a.m. local time, the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average shed 33.93 points, or 0.15 percent, from Wednesday to 23,256.93.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, lost 4.20 points, or 0.26 percent, at 1,620.28.

Mining, insurance, and marine transportation-oriented issues comprised those that declined the most in the opening minutes after the morning bell.
