TOKYO, Jan. 5 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks lost ground Tuesday morning, following a poor showing on Wall Street overnight, with investors trading cautiously ahead of the Japanese government's plan to declare a month-long coronavirus state of emergency in the capital and neighboring areas later this week.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average shed 26.00 points, or 0.10 percent, from Monday to 27,232.38.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, lost 0.93 points, or 0.05 percent, at 1,793.66.

Air transportation, transportation equipment and pulp and paper-linked issues comprised those that declined the most by the morning break.
