The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.97 percent higher at 14,796.23 points.
The combined turnover of stocks covered by the two indices stood at 1.02 trillion yuan (about 160.04 billion U.S. dollars), up from 997.3 billion yuan on the previous trading day.
Shares related to the cloud games and metaverse led the gains, while those related to the logistics and salt lake-based lithium sectors led the losses.
The ChiNext Index, tracking China's NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, gained 1.25 percent to close at 3,322.79 points Thursday.
