The Shenzhen Component Index closed 1.29 percent lower at 13,297.11 points.
The combined turnover of stocks covered by the two indices came in at 978.3 billion yuan (about 154.1 billion U.S. dollars), up from 900.4 billion yuan on the previous trading day.
Stocks related to gold, computing concepts, and data hubs led the gains, while shares in the metaverse and gaming sectors led the losses.
The ChiNext Index, tracking China's NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, lost 1.38 percent to close at 2,765.91 points Tuesday.
