China is likely to unveil guidelines over medical service pricing reform within this year, said Xu Kunlin, head of Department of Price of National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) Wednesday.

So far, draft guidelines on medical service pricing reform has been finished and been going through commenting before releasing. In China, present medical services pricing mechanism is not abundantly efficient in reflecting the labor value of practitioners and always adds to patients' medical expenses burden, said Xu In next step, China will work on establishing a medical services pricing mechanism that features classified management, flexible adjustment and multi-party participation.

For instance, free pricing may be allowed in time for medical services in public hospitals boasting high competitiveness and strong demands for personalized services.
