Chicago Board of Trade (CBOT) corn was closed unchanged Thursday, while wheat settled lower slightly and soybean rebounded after an official report showed U.S. soybean export improved.
The most active corn contract for March delivery were closed at 3.6025 U.S. dollars per bushel. March wheat delivery lost 3 cents, or 0.65 percent, to close at 4.5825 dollars per bushel. March soybeans advanced 11.25 cents, or 1.3 percent, to close at 8.735 dollars per bushel.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) said in its weekly export report Thursday morning that U.S. soybean sales till the week of Feb. 4 were 666,800 metric tons, which were up noticeably from the previous week and 1 percent from the prior 4-week average.
Analysts noted that the data were better than expected and supported soybeans higher Thursday. The wheat sales were 263,300 metric tons, up from the previous week and also 6 percent up from the prior 4-week average, according to the report. But analysts noted that wheat was pressed by technical selling Thursday on ample stocks and big supplies.
The USDA rated corn sales at 405,000 metric tons in the report, which were down 64 percent from the previous week and 57 percent from the prior 4-week average. However, the USDA said Thursday morning in another report that private exporters reported export sales of 152,400 metric tons of corn for delivery to unknown destinations during the 2015/2016 marketing year.
