Employment levels in the eurozone ended 2016 on a strong note, bringing the total number of people in the workforce to the highest since the 2008 financial crisis, official data revealed on Wednesday.
The number of people employed in the eurozone increased by 0.3 percent in the fourth quarter of 2016 compared with the previous one, according to the statistical office of the European Union (EU), Eurostat.
Compared with the same quarter of 2015, employment increased by 1.1 percent in the euro area. Eurostat estimated there are 153.9 million men and women employed in the 19-country euro area, the highest level since the third quarter of 2008.
In the wider 28-country EU, there are 232.9 million citizens employed, reaching the highest level ever recorded.
