Spain's consumer prices rose by 1.6 percent in August when compared with the same month of a year earlier, according to advanced data of the Consumer Price Index (CPI) published by Spain's Statistical Office (INE) on Wednesday.

The rate is 0.1 percentage point higher than that of July, when consumer prices had risen by 1.5 percent. The INE said the difference was due to higher prices of fuels, although the institute will provide more information about the evolution of prices when this data is confirmed.

Spain's consumer prices have been rising for 12 months in a row on a year-on-year basis after having registered negative rates for eight consecutive months.

On a month-to-month basis, prices increased by 0.2 percent from July to August, the INE reported.
