SINGAPORE, Jan. 10 (Xinhua) -- The Department of Statistics of Singapore announced on Friday that Singapore's retail sales declined by 4 percent year on year in November 2019, compared to a recalculated 4.4 percent decrease in the previous month.

On a seasonally adjusted basis, the retail sales increased by 0.2 percent month on month last November, compared to a 2.4 percent decrease in October 2019.

The authority said that excluding motor vehicles, Singapore's retail sales in November 2019 fell by 0.6 percent year on year, but grew by one percent month on month.

It added that the estimated total retail sales value in November 2019 was about 3.6 billion Singapore dollars (about 2.67 billion U.S. dollars). Of these, online retail sales made up an estimated eight percent, compared to the 6.1 percent recorded in October 2019.

The authority attributes the proportion increase to higher online retail sales from major online shopping events such as Singles' Day, Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

Meanwhile, the sales of food and beverage services increased 5.5 percent year on year and 2.3 percent month on month in November 2019. The sales value was estimated at 898 million Singapore dollars (about 665 billion U.S. dollars).
