Tokyo stocks closed lower Monday as the Bank of Japan's new easing measures aimed at stabilizing financial markets impacted by the spread of the coronavirus failed to impress some investors.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average dropped 429.01 points, or 2.46 percent, from Friday to close the day at 17,002.04.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, lost 25.36 points, or 2.01 percent, to finish at 1,236.34.

Rubber product, transportation equipment and electric appliance-linked issues comprised those that declined the most by the close of play.
