At 07:00 (AEST), the Australian dollar was buying 62.30 U.S. cents, up from 61.73 U.S. cents on Wednesday.
On Wednesday the Australian parliament passed a 130 billion Australian dollar (81 billion U.S. dollar) wage subsidy package, the country's largest fiscal program on record.
"AUD/USD again outperformed on the day, rising from 61.20 U.S. cents early London to 62.45 U.S. cents - the highest since mid-March," Westpac Bank economists said in a morning note.
At 09:00 (AEST), the local unit was buying 62.35 U.S. cents.
