Excluding biomedical manufacturing, the output fell 3.5 percent from a year ago, due to COVID-19 related measures implemented in Singapore and overseas, said the authority.
On a seasonally adjusted month-on-month basis, Singapore's manufacturing output increased 3.6 percent in April. Excluding biomedical manufacturing, the output grew 4.8 percent.
The biomedical manufacturing cluster made the best performance again in April. Its output expanded 100.5 percent year on year in the month. The robust growth in the cluster was largely attributed to the pharmaceuticals segment which grew 141.3 percent, on the back of higher production of active pharmaceutical ingredients and biological products.
As for the performance of other clusters, the electronics cluster's output increased 0.8 percent year on year in April. Meanwhile, the precision engineering cluster's output expanded 5.9 percent year on year, the transport engineering cluster's output decreased 24.1 percent, the chemicals cluster's output fell 6.8 percent, and the general manufacturing industries cluster's output contracted 20.2 percent.
