Singapore’s manufacturing output declines 8.4 pct on year in July

SINGAPORE, Aug. 26 (Xinhua) -- Singapore Economic Development Board announced on Wednesday that the country’s manufacturing output decreased 8.4 percent year on year in July, compared to a revised 6.5 percent decrease in June.

Excluding biomedical manufacturing, the output declined 5.2 percent in July from a year ago.

On a seasonally adjusted month-on-month basis, Singapore’s manufacturing output increased 1.6 percent in July. Excluding biomedical manufacturing, the output increased ten percent.

As for the performance of different clusters, the electronics cluster’s output fell 1.4 percent year on year in July, while the precision engineering cluster’s output grew 9.3 percent year on year, the transport engineering cluster’s output decreased 39.8 percent, the biomedical manufacturing cluster’s output fell 24.8 percent, the chemicals cluster’s output fell 2.4 percent, and the general manufacturing cluster’s output contracted 22.2 percent.
