Tokyo stocks open higher on Wall Street's lead, manufacturing data

TOKYO, Aug. 4 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened higher Tuesday following a positive lead from Wall Street overnight led by tech shares rallying, with data showing U.S. manufacturing expanded in July, adding broader hopes for a global economic recovery.

As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 284.12 points, or 1.28 percent, from Monday to 22,479.50.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, added 23.92 points, or 1.57 percent, at 1,546.56.

Marine transportation, metal product, and farm and fishery issues comprised those that gained the most in the opening minutes after the morning bell.
