KUALA LUMPUR, Aug. 27 (Xinhua) -- Malaysia's producer price index for local production fell 3.5 percent year on year in July, dragged by mining, manufacturing, electricity and gas supply index, official data showed Thursday.

Malaysian Statistics Department said in a statement that the mining index slumped 37 percent due to lower oil prices; manufacturing, as well as electricity and gas supply index also recorded a decrease of 1.3 percent respectively.

However, the index of agriculture, forestry and fishing rose 14.6 percent.

On a monthly basis, the producer price index posted a marginal increase of 0.4 percent.
