At 07:00 (AEST), the Australian dollar was buying 70.48 U.S. cents, down from 70.74 U.S. cents on Thursday.
"The U.S. dollar was mixed against G10 currencies on the day," Westpac Bank economists said in a morning note.
"AUD/USD extended its local session decline as far as 70.16 U.S. cents (two-month low) in London trade, then trimmed losses to 70.50 U.S. cents."
At 09:30 (AEST), the local unit was buying 70.56 U.S. cents.
