Tokyo stocks open lower amid concerns over resurgence of COVID-19 cases

TOKYO, Oct. 30 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened lower Friday amid concerns over the economic impact of a resurgence of COVID-19 cases in some European countries after new partial lockdowns were imposed.

As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average dropped 58.06 points, or 0.25 percent, from Thursday to 23,273.88.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, dropped 9.24 points, or 0.57 percent, at 1,601.69.

Pharmaceutical, precision instrument and pulp and paper issues comprised those that declined the most in the opening minutes after the morning bell.
