TOKYO, Oct. 23 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened higher Friday following U.S. shares' gains overnight, although the upside was capped ahead of the upcoming U.S. presidential debate amid a number of economic and policy uncertainties.

As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average added 43.99 points, or 0.19 percent, from Thursday to 23,518.26.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, gained 0.27 point, or 0.02 percent, at 1,620.06.

Air transportation, rubber product and mining-oriented issues comprised those that gained the most in the opening minutes after the morning bell.
