Vietnam's automobile import tumbles in 10 months

HANOI, Nov. 2 (Xinhua) -- Vietnam spent over 4.8 billion U.S. dollars on importing completely-built automobiles and components for assembly between January and October this year, posting a year-on-year decline of 21.5 percent.

Specifically, the country imported nearly 81,000 completely-built automobiles worth approximately 1.8 billion U.S. dollars, down 33.1 percent in volume and 34 percent in value, according to the country's Ministry of Industry and Trade on Monday.

Vietnam's total automobile sales in the first nine months of this year stood at 179,155 units, a year-on-year plunge of 22 percent, according to the Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers Association.

In 2019, Vietnam spent over 7.4 billion U.S. dollars importing completely-built automobiles and components for assembly. Specifically, the country imported roughly 141,700 completely-built automobiles worth more than 3.2 billion U.S. dollars, according to its General Statistics Office.
