Tokyo stocks open higher on U.S. shares' advance, election in focus

TOKYO, Nov. 4 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened higher Wednesday, tracking U.S. shares higher overnight as investors closely watched the final stages of the U.S. presidential election, with vote-counting already beginning in several states.

As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average jumped 467.78 points, or 2.01 percent, from Monday to 23,763.26.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, added 24.58 points, or 1.53 percent, at 1,632.53.

Markets in Japan were closed on Tuesday for a national holiday.

Iron and steel, consumer credit and mining issues comprised those that gained the most in the opening minutes after the morning bell.
